China Premieres World’s Fastest Train

China becomes the first country to debut a train that can travel up to 600 kilometers per hour (373 miles per hour) in Qingdao, China.

The Maglev Bullet train is considered the fastest train in the world, surpassing the average high-speed train in China which goes up to 350 kph. It was developed by the state-owned China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation.

The train is able to transport itself through an electromagnetic force that allows it to glide across the railway and give it the appearance of it “floating”. This is depicted in the name “magnetic levitation” or Maglev for short.

According to Liang Jianying, the deputy general manager and Chief Engineer of CRRC Sifang, apart from being the fastest train, the Maglev requires less maintenance than other high speed trains and it has a lower level of noise pollution.

This train is a high priority in China helping the Chinese government and citizens facilitate easy access and ease of travel to its largest cities and also reduce the time spent boarding trains. Trains like the Maglev can fill a critical space in the transportation in China.

The only roadblock is the need for completed Maglev track networks connecting to major cities. At present China has only one maglev line for commercial use connecting Shanghai’s Pudong Airport with the Longyang Road station in the city.
