The police in Birni-Kbbi have arrested and arraigned a 32-year-old man, Umar Lawali, for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.

According to reports,  prosecutor, Inspector Bello Sani told the court that the offence was committed in July by the accused, who lives at Yar Fada quarters in Argungu Local Government Area and that medical records  revealed that the girl was raped.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

 Lawalli however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Malam Muktar Tafarki, ordered the prosecutor to further investigate the matter and forward the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecution, for advice.

He therefore, adjourned the matter till December 8 for further hearing.
